As a Safety Officer (SO) within a commercial drone operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing safety protocols, risk management strategies, and regulatory compliance to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flights. Collaborating closely with the Pilot in Command (PIC), Visual Observers (VOs), and other team members, you will play a pivotal role in identifying potential hazards, implementing preventive measures, and promoting a culture of safety excellence in all aspects of UAS operations conducted under applicable regulations.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, safety planning, assessing risk, training and education, safety and compliance, emergency response, and incident management.

Required Credentials:

  • Hold an FAA Private, Sport, or Recreational Pilot Certificate
  • Current FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
  • Hold a current Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)
  • Hold USI Primary Certifications
  • Hold USI Advanced Certifications

As a Commercial Drone Pilot operating under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, you will serve as the Pilot in Command (PIC) for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flights conducted under Part 107 guidelines. Additionally, you will be responsible for adhering to FAA exemptions allowing operation under Part 91 regulations when applicable. This role demands a thorough understanding of airspace regulations, safety protocols, and operational procedures to ensure safe and efficient drone operations.

Key responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, flight planning, pre-flight preparation, operational execution, safety and compliance, record keeping, and reporting.

Required Credentials:

  • Hold an FAA Private, Sport, or Recreational Pilot Certificate
  • Current FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
  • Hold a current Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)
  • Hold USI Primary Certifications
  • Hold USI Advanced Certifications

As a Visual Observer (VO) supporting commercial drone operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient conduct of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flights. Working closely with the Pilot in Command (PIC), you will serve as the eyes on the ground, providing essential visual surveillance and communication assistance during flight operations conducted under Part 107 regulations. Your keen observation skills and ability to effectively communicate with the pilot and other team members will contribute to the success of each mission while maintaining compliance with FAA guidelines.

Key responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, supporting the PIC with pre-flight preparation, in-flight support, safety and compliance, and assistance with record keeping.

Required Credentials:

  • Hold a current Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)
  • Hold USI Primary Certifications
